About Us

Who we are, where we come from, and where we are headed as a church family

Who we are

Here is the deal. Southside Baptist Church cares about one thing above anything else, Jesus Christ. Southside is a family of individuals who have found hope in Jesus, and simply want to share that same hope with as many people as possible.

Where we come from

Southside Baptist was started in 1979 as a church plant of First Baptist Paris and in 1983 it became a self-supporting church. We have had a humble begining but our desire has always been to be involved in our community and a place where people can come and be accepted as they are.

Where we’re headed

Today, being a part of the Paris community and being a church that is “For Paris” is a fundamental piece of who we want to become. We believe that for a long time churches have been known for what they are against more than what they are for. We want to change that and be a church that is known for what we are for. One of the things we are for is Paris and how we can help in the process of making our community a great place to live and raise a family.

What this means for you

What does this mean for you? Most importantly, you’re always welcome at Southside. We’re saving a seat for you. Wherever you’re at in your faith journey, you’ll always be accepted as part of the Southside family.

What We Believe

We are a member of the Concord Association, Arkansas Baptist Convention and Southern Baptist Convention.

About the Scriptures

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error.

About Humanity

We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.

About the Purpose of Grace

We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

About Baptism

We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

About God

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.

About Salvation

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.

About the Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world.
